Cain’s mother came into his room and interrupted him as he looked down at the video game controller in his hand.
“Where’s your brother?” his mother asked.
“How should I know?” Cain responded, “Am I my brothers keeper?”
“I told you that while I was gone you were supposed to look out for him.”
“Well, I was sitting here playing video games with him and he just disappeared, so how is this my fault?”
His mother walked closer to the room and switched off the television. “Hey!” Cain burst out, annoyed that he did not get a chance to save his game./>
His mother raised her voice, “Abel is a six-year-old, he is not young enough to be unsupervised, so now it is your job to come with me and find him.”
Cain gave his mother a reluctant look, but then finally put down the controller and followed his mother out of the room.
“Where are we supposed to look for him?” He asked.
“His mother did not answer, instead she called loud so that if he was somewhere in the house he would respond. She went to an open window that looked out into the yard and yelled again, “Abel!” But there was no response.
“How long has he been gone?” she asked Cain.
“I don’t know, maybe just like ten minutes.”
“Did he say where he was going?”
Just then the doorbell rang. The mother rushed to the front door and was surprised to find it locked. When she opened it there was her son Abel.
He was crying and told his mom, “Cain made me leave the house because he was mad because I beat him in a video game.”
